Employees who work in high-risk environments, such as confined spaces, can be especially vulnerable to harmful gasses. While some gases are humanly detectable. Others are not. If left to build up, these gases are life-threatening.

Here at FIT, we have a range of specialists who can help you; Wayne Schmidt is an experience RPE and gas detection specialist, so you can feel at ease knowing you are in the right hands.

We also hold a range of accreditations and memberships with relevant organisations. We have achieved ISO 45001 and are a member of the Achilles UVDB-approvedĀ supplier program, having achieved the Silver Plus recognition.

Gas detector calibration

What is a gas detector?

A gas detector is used to identify a gas leak. Gas detectors are used to upkeep the safety of an enclosed working environment to ensure that when there is a gas leak, it is detected straight away.

Why is it important to calibrate detectors?

It is essential to calibrate your gas detectors as this can affect your safety and others around you. Having your gas detector calibrated also maintains it and makes it reliable for detecting gas leaks effectively.

How often do detectors need to be calibrated?

It is recommended that your gas detector is calibrated every six months. The best way to check if your detector needs calibration is by doing a bump test. However, depending on your equipment and how often you use it, you may need to calibrate it more often. Having your gas detector calibrated ensures gas detectors continue measuring gas concentration accurately and saving lives.

Gas detector maintenance

Maintaining your gas detector is vital to extend its use and efficiency. However, after some time, your gas detector will inevitably begin to deteriorate, and this will cause it not to perform as well. That is why it is recommended that gas detectors should be maintained. Not only is it essential to get external maintenance for your gas detector, but it is also important to keep it in a suitable environment where dust and dampness are avoided.
