The goal of a drill is to practice aspects of the response plan and prepare teams and participants for more extensive exercises in the future. A drill can test a specific operation or function of the response plan.  Facilities should conduct evacuations, shelter in place, and lockdown drills to demonstrate emergency response actions. Drills can be altered to incorporate various scenario situations. The procedures, individual responsibilities, and public safety coordination may be addressed depending on the drill.

What is a Major Incident?

A major incident is any emergency that requires the implementation of special arrangements by one or all of the emergency services and will generally include the involvement, either directly or indirectly, of large numbers of people.

What is Major Incident Scenario Planning?

This is the practice of running drills on the different kinds of major incidents that your company can face. Things such as fire drills, collapsed tunnels, major site damage and personnel casualties.

Why do I need Major Incident Scenario Planning?

These are the most serious and most dangerous kinds of incidents which cause the biggest loss of life and cause the most damage. At FIT we can assess where your weaknesses are in responding, create a plan and drill you accordingly.

What are the four stages of major incidents?

Initial response; Consolidation phase; Recovery phase; and Restoration of normality. These loosely define the alert level and response from us and other emergency services.

How often should we run Major Incident Scenario Planning?

It will depend on your individual needs but usually every year is a good amount of time to review and update designs for a Major Incident Scenario. If multiple factors which will increase the likelihood of a Major incident occurring happen, planning soon can only be beneficial.

What do I need to prepare for a Major Incident Scenario?

Make sure all your alarms, fire doors and all safety measures are working and up to date, this is good practice anyway but this will also ensure we are making more specific reports for you.
